Hardwood Care

Regular care for your hardwood flooring will help you protect your investment and extend the life of it.

Following these tips will help you prevent scratches, dirt build-up, and any other occurrences that could blemish your hardwoods.

Dust Daily

As easy as it is, dusting is one of the most underestimated steps in the hardwood care regimen.

Daily dusting prevents scratches while extending the beauty and life of your floor. It also reduces allergens that linger on the surface.

Clean Weekly

Throughout the week, regular debris builds up on hardwood floors. It is best to use a cleaner that’s made for your floor’s finish.

Look for pH-neutral, nontoxic, and biodegradable formulas to effectively clean and to keep your home safe.

We don’t suggest using vinegar because it can eat away at the finish, even when diluted with water.

Clean Spills Immediately

Use a dry or slightly damp cloth to wipe up anything you spill. Avoid wet or steam mops because they can damage your floors over time.

Use Furniture Pads

While some scratches are inevitable, others can be prevented. One of the easiest ways to prevent them is to add furniture pads to the legs of your chairs, sofas, tables, etc.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid using soap-based cleaners or wax your hardwood floor.

  • Use a rubber rug underlayment in entryways or high-traffic areas.

  • Avoid wearing high heels inside because they can cause scratches or gouges in the wood.

  • Avoid string mops because they put excessive amounts of water on the floor.

  • Keep your pet’s nails trimmed.

  • Maintain a comfortable environment without extreme humidity and temperatures.

  • Avoid using oil-based polish which dulls the wood and can cause it to be slippery.
