How does laminate compare to hardwood flooring?


Both flooring types will beautify a home with luxury and warmth.

 

While hardwood is often thought to be a superior choice, there are several advantages to laminate flooring.

 

Laminates are a long-lasting, durable, and affordable alternative to hardwoods, and they can be installed in places where hardwoods cannot be placed (e.g. basements and bathrooms).

Will laminate be too noisy if I have children and pets?


Laminate flooring is recommended for children and pets, and it is not significantly noisier than other hard flooring surfaces.

 

Your underlayment will play the greatest role in reducing noise from foot traffic. 

What is an underlayment?


Underlayment refers to any roll or sheet designed to be installed between the subfloor’s surface and laminate flooring material.

Why do I need an underlayment?


Underlayments are used to improve acoustical properties (reduce noise), smooth out minor subfloor imperfections, improve insulation, and protect the laminate flooring from subfloor moisture.

 

If the laminate you choose already has a foam pad attached to the back, then additional padding is not needed. 

Can laminates be installed in a basement?


Yes,they may be installed in a basement in accordance with the manufacturer product specific installation recommendations. It will be important to use a moisture barrier over the cement.

Can laminate flooring be installed over a radiant heated floor?


Yes, but there are special installation procedures required for radiant heated subfloors. The manufacturer’s installation recommendations must be followed to ensure a successful installation.

Will laminate flooring fade?


Though fading is not common, it is possible to see a small difference under rugs and furniture from long term exposure to UV light or cleaning products.

Can I put heavy appliances down directly on my vinyl floors?


Yes! Laminate flooring is one of your better options as it relates to heavy appliances. It is less prone to indentations and scratches than other flooring types. 

Can laminate be installed over old carpet?


No, carpets must be removed because it does not provide protection against moisture, nor does it support the planks’ locking system.
